SURE y'all is a word. Isn't that a contraction for you all or is it plural to include everyone? Not that it's right but I've used it for years. Yes, I've been called on it, too. But....guess it's all in the understanding of things, right!?
Y'all is certainly an acceptable word. It is even acceptable, in the right situation to omit the apostrophe and make it one long sylable... "yall". And, wouldn't it be horrible if we had to say "you all" or "all of you folks" or "everyone" when all we mean is "y'all".
